A new year, and a new attitude, has been officially declared! Pantone has chosen Tangerine Tango to represent 2012. For almost fifty years, industry leaders have relied on the authority to forecast our color culture. Spring lines, within the fashion and cosmetics industry, will boldly introduce this enthusiastic color. The interior design trade has fearlessly embraced the haute hue! Pantone insists the featured shade “provides the energy boost we need to recharge and move forward.”
Executive Director of the Pantone Institute, Leatrice Eiseman, describes Tangerine Tango as “an orange with a lot of depth to it.” The powerful combination of courageous red and vivid yellow could easily overwhelm an interior space if applied with abandon. As a result, we will most likely see this exciting color on accent pieces, textiles and accessories. Any designer can easily inject a jolt of passion into a project with a little Tango! However, with a careful hand, an experienced tastemaker can center a design scheme on this year’s winner. Paint is an easy choice, yet there are even more innovative, and daring, options in wallpaper. This traditional medium is back on the scene, offering avant-garde selections for designers who want to push the envelope or indulge their imaginations.

Exotic, yet friendly, this coral beauty is exactly what we need to lead us from a year of hopeful optimism, with 2011’s Honeysuckle, into a chapter of eager action. Holistic color therapists support this theory, believing orange is the color of creativity. And Feng Shui experts maintain the color represents fire and aids in the focus of concentration. However you see it, there is no doubt that this year, the spirited and engaging, Tangerine Tango, will have us up and dancing in no time!
