David Gappa Presents a Behind-the-Scenes Making of "Tropic Rain"

THE DESIGN

Vetro founder David Gappa and Stephanie Moore Hager of Moore Design Group co-designed this signature chandelier to be the focal point of a grand residential entry way. Their vision was to mimic the serenity of a rain shower, with each glass droplet of water catching a glimpse of the sunset hues as it falls through the forest canopy.

LED illumination by Erik Thompson of Quatro Lighting and photography by Lorraine Haan-Stewart of Spiral Photography.

THE ART

Deep silver blue, iris gold, and copper ruby globes were handblown by Gappa and team in the Vetro studio, then suspended by brushed stainless steel rods that pierce through a polished steel canopy. "Tropic Rain," the 9-foot tall x 4-foot in diameter fine art glass chandelier, was commissioned for a private residence.

THE BEHIND-the-SCENES FOOTAGE

Architectural designer and glass artist David Gappa founded Vetro Fine Art Glass Studio and Gallery in 1998. Following a passion shared by Italian glassblowers centuries before him, Gappa designs and creates his own signature work, while leading a team of glass artists in his Grapevine studio. Clients of his include fine art collectors, commercial and residential interior designers and glassblowing enthusiasts around the world.
