H. Murray is a pseudonym for the Birmingham illustrator Horace Hammond. Murray flourished in England around 1920. Hammond also worked under the pseudonyms of J. Barclay and A.D. Bell. In this watercolor, Murray delightfully depicts an English scene set around Christmas. With its light and playful blues and yellows, the viewer can almost feel the joy of the season. A coach approach the English inn and a cluster of villagers look on in the lower right corner. Signed lower right "H. Murray", 11 X 17 1/2 inches.
