The steady growth of wine production by some estimates has increased by 35 percent a year in just the last five years. The recent influx of wineries in the Texas Hill Country has spurred a trend to opt for a custom wine room, not only to house this new “cash crop” investment, but to add and hold value to the home, something that a wet bar would not normally do.

While the contents of a liquor cabinet are not normally viewed as an investment, fine wines most certainly are, and therefore command much more attention to how they are displayed and stored. You just simply stand liquor upright on a shelf at room temperature in a cabinet or closet and don’t give it another thought until it is cocktail time. Not so with fine wine. It needs an optimum temperature and humidity range (55 to 65 degrees Fahrenheit with 50 to 70 percent relative humidity) and should lay neck down to keep the cork from drying out.

Slocum Street Style 2012 was once again a great success. Yesterday evening, Slocum Street brimmed with design enthusiasts and curious others strolling along leisurely from showroom to showroom in the twilight of the evening. Each showroom was full of the bustle of lively conversation.

They helped soothe the growl of people’s stomachs by serving light bites and drinks. Also featured in each showroom were individual raffle prizes for people in attendance. For those with bigger appetites, there were food trucks located on a few street corners filled with the smells of mouth-watering food.

The Kitchen Source had chefs from Subzero whip up some scrumptious tex mex finger foods for guests.

Texas Sun & Shade celebrates their 25th year in business serving Austin and Central Texas.
September marks the anniversary that Ben & Gudrun Skoldeberg, a husband and wife team, brought retractable awning systems to Austin. In 1987 the Skoldebergs, along with one business partner, saw an opportunity to expand their already successful awning business, located in northern Sweden, to a new market with much climatic need for these systems - and Texas Sun & Shade was born.

On September 26, the Skoldebergs held a celebration at Abel’s on the Lake to mark the anniversary of their business in Austin. They welcomed their staff, friends, family, clients and all of the business partners who have contributed to the success of Texas Sun & Shade over the past 25 years.

California Closets of the Texas Hill Country makes it their goal to set a high standard of customer service and attention to detail that is unsurpassed by anyone. Serving Austin, San Antonio, the surrounding hill country, and through the Texas-Mexico border, they guarantee their products and workmanship for as long as anyone owns their home.
"Our systems will always meet and adapt to your changing storage needs, which works well for anyone hoping to add value to their home. Also, unlike most of our competitors, we offer a more substantial product in look and use that is a 100% true custom design and fit to specific spaces," said Tarra Conte, business coordinator, California Closets.
Additionally, they are a one-stop shop with an all-inclusive price: they design, they fabricate, they install and they guarantee. Competitors usually offer do-it-yourself products that you pick up in the store and install yourself or charge an additional fee for out-sourced contractors to install the system for you. When you work with California Closets, you’ll work with a California Closets designer and a California Closets installer; everyone on their team is highly trained in our services and products, exclusively.
