Slocum Street Style 2012 was once again a great success. Yesterday evening, Slocum Street brimmed with design enthusiasts and curious others strolling along leisurely from showroom to showroom in the twilight of the evening. Each showroom was full of the bustle of lively conversation.

The spread at McGannon Showrooms
They helped soothe the growl of people’s stomachs by serving light bites and drinks. Also featured in each showroom were individual raffle prizes for people in attendance. For those with bigger appetites, there were food trucks located on a few street corners filled with the smells of mouth-watering food.

The Kitchen Source had chefs from Subzero whip up some scrumptious tex mex finger foods for guests.

When it comes to rounding things off nicely, the HAWA-Media 70 is the first choice for sliding doors, having a minimum radius of 500 mm. This tried and tested sliding door hardware enables the creation of architectural solutions with appeal for shops, trade fairs and interior design, requiring little time and effort. Unusual ideas take shape and catch the eye of the passer-by, like the crystal-clear cylindrical telephone booth in front the Savoy Hotel in Zurich's Bahnhofstrasse, the ingenious finish to a spiral staircase, the circular room partition, or the high-class sliding door cabinet with its spectacular design. Unsightly recesses and alcoves in old housing stock, often difficult to utilise, transform into integrative elements of interior design, smoothly building bridges between the old and the new. This is another example of the valuable contribution the HAWA-Media 70 offers towards design and utilisation.

High-quality technology easily assembled
Sliding doors equipped with HAWA-Media 70 are not only something for the eye of the beholder; the interior designer and the end user alike will appreciate its running properties – exemplary thanks to plastic-coated ball-bearing rollers and rattle-proof floor guides – just as much as its easy assembly.

Susan King, Glasshouse, shares some of the many ways to utlize glass in ways you may have never thought of:
At Glasshouse, we have had a lot of fun experimenting with our clear textured glasses and colored glasses. We can silver the back for a mirrored affect and can also antique the silver for an aged affect.

It’s great on a piece of furniture or a ceiling for example. We have also painted the back of the clear glass with metallic paints to achieve a gold leaf, platinum or copper affect. This can be beautiful when the glass has a sandblasted design in it also.

Dutch doors have a charming, romantic look to them. Do you think we'll see more of them in homes? Do you think they are more of a nuisance than pratical? Would you put a Dutch door as the front or back door or both?

Texas Sun & Shade announces its 25th anniversary celebration of being in business!
September marks the anniversary that Ben and Gudrun Skoldeberg, a husband and wife team, brought retractable awning systems to Austin and Central Texas. In 1987, the Skoldebergs, along with one business partner, saw an opportunity to expand their already successful awning business, located in northern Sweden, to a new market with much climatic need for these systems - and Texas Sun & Shade was born.
“The initial challenge in Austin was educating people on retractable awnings and why they are a wise investment,” says Ben Skoldeberg. While awning business flourished in Sweden, the depressed local economy and the unfamiliarity of the products proved to be hardships for the Skoldebergs as they sold only one mini blind for $100 during the initial 5 months. Continuous education and endurance ultimately prevailed, and in 1990 the Skoldebergs bought out their Swedish business partner’s share of Texas Sun & Shade.
