Ask the Expert: Amp Up The Home with DeVance

electronic home customization

Technology has been playing a harmonious role in our lives for decades. Society depends on it to make life easier and more fluid. Over the years, expectations of faster and more efficient ways of integrating technology into our lives has become imperative and often times, impressive. Electronics have quickly evolved into more refined and faster gadgets, making obsolete the days when blackberries and apples were only referred to as fruits. The phenomenal movement of technology has not only inundated professional workplaces; it has found a new place in modern-day homes. Dana DeVance of DeVance AV Design, Inc., a full-service electronic systems design and custom integration firm in Dallas, goes into depth about the many ways a homeowner can control virtually anything electronic in their customized home with their smart phone or Apple iPad.

DG Gals Capture the Fun of Springboard to Design 2011

 Spring Board Nest Lecture

NEST Modern Austin, Texas

One of the best perks of being a DG Gal are the Design events we are invited to attend, and honored to help promote! We are privileged to be the media sponsor for many of the best design events around town, and we are always excited to participate in helping recognize the work done by Texas designers. Hosted by NEST Modern and co-sponsored by Design Guide, The Gallery Stores of Whit Hanks, David Alan Rugs, California Closets, Imago Dei, Exteriors Designer Showroom, Ferguson Showrooms, and Kravet, the Austin Community ASID held Springboard To Design for Austin & San Antonio Designers on May 18th. A full day of continuing education, prizes and fun, the design community came together to learn from one another. We were there with our cameras capturing the images that show a group of great designers who know how to have a good time!

Our Favorite Design Blogs

The wealth of online resources has changed the face of our design community. It was not that long ago that our daily exposure to design trends was based on our regional resources, so our design community was just that… regional. Exposure to national and international design trends was limited to a select group of uber successful designers, while the rest of the community anxiously waited each month to turn the pages of national publications such as Architectural Digest. Now that so much valuable information is readily available online, our design community has no borders. Now in combination with print, homeowners and design professionals alike can get up to the minute ideas, inspiration and sources through leading daily design blogs. For example, The Design Guide receives emails and requests from as far away as Dubai and Greece in search of resources, and we communicate via Facebook and twitter with Designers everywhere. We love to share the latest ideas, inspiration images and sources available in Texas, and in turn we have a list of blogs we are following that keep us informed from around the globe. Here are just a few of the blogs and online resources that our team loves to follow. Let us know your favorites.

The "Money Shot"

Rogers-Ford Architecture

Rogers-Ford Architecture & Interior Design

Today's homeowners are actively researching to find Interior Designers and showrooms that can provide them with design expertise as well as efficient and professional service. To find those resources, homeowners are searching the web and flipping through the pages of design publications. The myriad of images all begin to look the same until that one image pops out and strikes a cord. At the Design Guide we like to call this image the “money shot.” It is that single image that stops the buyer from continuing to flip pages and causes them to rethink the possibilities for their own space. As a publisher we see thousands of images a year, and the common thread among all the “money shots” is that they have been professionally photographed.

It's All In The Details

Covetable for the well-dressed home

Covetable- For the Well-Dressed Home

Imagine a fabulous interior… a home, restaurant or hotel you’ve experienced recently that was so profound, it caused you to stop abruptly and soak in the ambiance, leaving you speechless from the energy and detail of its design. Amazing interiors are like that, in the way that they can evoke emotion, render you to pause in the moment and take sharp notice of your surroundings. Beautiful design does not, however, just magically appear. Walls don’t paint themselves, art doesn’t hang itself and furnishings don’t materialize on their own. The creation of a breathtaking space that’s both visually stimulating and functional takes just the right amount discerning taste, expert guidance and a knack for translating the mind’s vision of the perfect interior into a reality. Enter: The Interior Designer.
