This year's June Total Home & Gift Market at Dallas Market Center proved the design market is perking up after a recently sluggish economy. With a bevy of speakers and presentations throughout the event, special guest Lee Eiseman lit up the room with a riveting 2010 Color Trends forecast presentation. We couldn't help but jot down some notes and take home a few tips from Eiseman's hand-picked home design color palettes from Pantone. After all, we are celebrating color this month at DG, so who better to get advice from than queen of color herself. Here's the scoop on Eiseman's 2010 color forecast for home interiors.
*Get Inspired* While fashion leads the color trend frontier, we can also take muse from other resources and social influences such as the show biz world (tv & movies), technology, healthy food and wellness influences, graphics, packaging, international culture, and more. Be aware of the different aesthetics around you, color is everywhere!
*Economy* In this economy, people are looking for ways to "add to" what they have already purchased, rather than wiping out a room and starting over clean slate. People tend to "burrow" at home when money is tight, says Eiseman, which creates a diversion from the recession. People are still willing to add, refresh, and "feather their nest," she adds.
*Quirky Combo* Unusual color combinations can create an unexpected sophistication, says Eiseman, as long-standing color "rules" are becoming a thing of the past. Try yellow, green, and blue together, or pink, red and orange.
*Add Some "Whimsy"* Bright, punchy, show-stopping colors make things fun and interesting, creating a natural escape in your own home.
*Personal Comfort* Not everyone loves the idea of screaming hot pink. Keep things within your comfort level by keeping larger elements neutral and using brightly colored accent pieces.
*Blast from the Past* Nothing says chic like a mix of contemporary and traditional. Eclectic is definitely in Eiseman notes.
*The Three Re's* REcycle, REuse, REpurpose. Everything is going green.
*Accents* Gold, silver, bronze, copper and metallic trim and accents are growing in popularity as these looks are becoming more affordable with technological advancements.
