Hundreds of "green" supporters flooded the floors of the Frontiers of Flight Museum last Thursday for the Second Annual North Texas Sustainable Showcase hosted by the USGBC North Texas Chapter, AIA Dallas, COTE, and CSI Dallas Chapter, to boast the latest and greatest in green building products and technology for commercial and residential spaces. Vendors lined up table after table of energy-saving, eco-friendly, state-of-the-art products as attendees moved from station to station soaking up all the valuable information, while a bevvy of certified speakers filled the conference rooms upstairs for a series of lectures and workshops. Building a sustainable environment won't happen overnight, it takes time, patience and practice. But, with a slew of high-tech, energy efficient items right at our fingertips, now is the best time to start. David Rodriguez, a LEED Accredited Professional and Vice President at Ware Architecture and former 2008 Chairman of the North Texas US Green Building Council is a firm believer in the practice-makes-perfect method to sustainable living. “Be honest with yourself,’ he says, ‘you aren’t going to change the world in one day, but you will be surprised what a difference you can make over time. It’s all about taking small steps towards change.”
The museum was filled to the brim with recycled, reused, energy-conscious products, everything from lighting and windows to floor stains, carpets and tiles. Here's a glance at a few of the companies and items that really had us talking.
