There are several ways to redefine a space in your home. From contemporary to traditional, designers are finding creative ways to mix the two styles to form a unique, eclectic space. Dennis Teague of McGannon Showrooms in Dallas discusses this latest movement in home design.
“There is a huge trend going on right now with mixing contemporary and traditional styles,” Teague says, “Furniture with clean lines is so popular because it’s easily mixed with more traditional pieces, and makes for an innovative room.” The showroom has begun to carry more contemporary furniture and accessories in response to this trend.

Teague suggests confidence when mixing different styles of furniture with accessories. “Place a large-scaled black lacquer traditional mirror that is heavy with embellishment above a long, chic, white contemporary sofa – it’ll make the whole room pop.”
“Christopher Guy, Sherrill and Marge Carson are some of the most popular lines in our showroom” adds Teague. “We’re bringing in some incredible accessories as well that can transform a room.
Teague credits the trend toward redecorating with accessories to the recent economy. “People aren’t remodeling whole rooms as often. Instead, they are buying ottomans, pillows, mirrors, lamps, art and other forms of dramatic accessories in order to fluff-up and alter a room,” says Teague.
Incorporating contemporary styles and fresh accessories into a space is a great way to augment a room without spending a lot of money and still satisfy a client’s need for change. And a client’s need for change is the one thing that is always on trend.
